Ingredients and Variations

Country Style Ribs – Country style pork ribs are packed with flavor. They contain a mixture of light and dark meat meaning that they have lots of flavor. You can find them boneless or bone-in, either will work in this recipe.

Rib Rib – This rub recipe is the perfect combination of sweet, salty, and savory! Feel free to switch out the brown sugar for maple syrup or honey, if you like. Add your own favorite herbs and spices like onion powder and garlic powder.

BBQ Sauce – Use your favorite BBQ sauce, my favorite pre-made sauce is Sweet Baby Ray’s but to take it to the next level, mix half and half with Heinz chili sauce. If you have enough time, make homemade BBQ sauce for even better flavor!

Tips for Tender Country Style Ribs

  • Add sliced onions to the pan on top of the ribs for extra flavor.
  • If you check the ribs and they aren’t tender, cook them a little longer. Ribs need more time if they’re tough.
  • Cook country-style pork ribs very low and slow to break down the connective tissues and make tender ribs.

How to Store Leftovers

Keep leftover country-style ribs in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. Reheat them in the microwave or add chunks to a soup, stir fry, or make BBQ sandwiches for workdays! Freeze ribs in zippered bags for up to one month.

  1. Barbecue country pork ribs in the oven we’re fantastic!!! I wife even ate an extra rib or two!! Shared with my 84 year old father- in- law who couldn’t quit taking about delicious they were. I added a little local North Carolina mountain honey for the last five minutes on broil. This will be a definite repeat recipe .

  2. I had to make these x3 for my family and everything came out so good! My mom was a little worried that the ribs were not going to be fully cooked because the oven was at 250 but i reassured her i was following the recipe LOL. cooked all three batches at the same time for 2 hours (covered) & 1 hour uncovered. i drained the juice because it was alot. My first time cooking ribs and everyone loved it! Really tender and flavorful. Thanks for the recipe (:5 stars

  3. Hi,

I have a question. If I want to cook a smaller portion since it’s only for 2 people, like 2 or 2.5 pounds, how long should I be baking them for?

    Thanks!

    1. The baking time will be close to the same Winnie. I’d suggest checking about 15 minutes earlier to make sure.

    1. The first part of cooking tenderizes them which could be done in the slow cooker. The second part adds a nice crust so I would suggest the oven for this part.

  4. Cumin was overwhelming. I’ll try again with a substitute or seriously reduced portion but on this batch, it’s all I can taste.2 stars

    1. Same here. My husband doesn’t like cumin too much so I had to make him something else for dinner. Cumin is waaaaay overpowering.2 stars

  5. Just made these, and OMIGOD!!! Amazing! Perfect amount of spice, super tender. I’m gonna end up in the hospital because I can’t stop eating them. Will it be worth it? Heck yeah! Thank you so much for posting.5 stars

  6. I enjoy your website. You are definitely an excellent cook. I am trying your Country style ribs today. There seems to be a discrepancy it the timing. 15 minutes prep. 3 hours cooking. Total time, 4:15. May I assume it is 3:15 Total time.

While I really enjoy your website, I often give up as it is very slow to load. I know you survive by the ads on your site, but the way they currently load and change is my guess as to why the website is very slow. Just a guess.

Thank you for your hard work. We must like the same foods as your site always appears near the top of most of my searches

  7. Why does this say 4 hours cook time? I’m only seeing 3 hours – 2 hours under foil and 1 hour after basting. What did I miss?

  8. I have been craving ribs for a couple of weeks now. Trying your recipe out today! I cannot wait to bring a little bit of summer to this Ohio winter!

    1. If there is a lot of liquid, it can be drained off. If you just have a little bit, you can leave it and it will mostly evaporate.

  9. My mom has made an almost identical version of this since I can remember. Now that I’m cooking for my own kids I made this the other night and it was a hit. Thanks5 stars

      1. Hi Holly,
