Ingredients for Air Fryer wings

This easy recipe is for cooking a basic batch of wings with a light sprinkle of salt and pepper, but there are also ideas for savory seasonings, and tasty dips and sauces, too!

Chicken Wings Split wings are best in this recipe, where the flat or wingette part is separated from the drumette and the wing tips have been removed and discarded.

You can use either fresh or frozen wings. If using frozen wings, air fry for 5-7 minutes extra cooking time. Check your air fryer manual for recommended settings and cooking times.

SeasoningsThese wings are flavored simply with salt and pepper. You can also add other seasonings like garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, lemon pepper, or ranch dressing mix.

They also pair well with any sauce from buffalo sauce to honey garlic or garlic parmesan.

How to Make Air Fryer Wings

These really are the best air fryer chicken wings. Simple, crispy and juicy tender inside.

  1. Season the wings in a bowl per the recipe below.
  2. Place the wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket and cook until crispy, flipping halfway through.
  3. Cook in batches if needed and reheat all wings in the air fryer for 3 minutes before serving.

Serve wings with carrot and celery sticks and your favorite dipping sauce like blue cheese dressing or ranch dressing.

Seasoning and Sauces for Wings

Use your favorite sauces from buffalo sauce, hot sauce, to honey garlic. Once the wings are cooked, place them in a large bowl and toss them with the sauce.

If you’d like to add seasonings in place of sauce, place the wings in a large bowl and toss them with a few tablespoons of melted butter and the seasonings. The butter will help the seasonings to stick.

Tips for Crispy Wings

  • Pat the wings dry before cooking, liquid causes them to steam instead of crisp.
  • Gently toss with a touch of oil or spray with nonstick cooking spray, this helps the seasonings stick.
  • Shake or flip the wings every 10 minutes to allow all sides to brown evenly.
  • Don’t overcrowd the air fryer. If needed, make a few smaller batches and then place them all back into the air fryer for 3 minutes to heat/crisp before serving.

Storing & Reheating

Keep leftover air fryer chicken wings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. It doesn’t take long to reheat them in the air fryer! Cooked wings can be frozen in a zippered bag and then reheated from frozen in the air fryer.

Sauce 'em Up!

Add your favorite homemade or store bought sauces to the wings. If preferred, skip the sauce and toss them with a bit of butter and seasonings like lemon pepper or everything bagel seasoning.

  1. The crispy wings in air fryer were delicious! I had to cook (mine were frozen) 25 min in single layer but they were soooo good! I used flower and corn starch…..5 stars

  2. Under recipe notes, drying the wings, you mention using flour mixed with baking SODA. In references listing ingredients in other sections of recipe a mixture of flour and baking POWDER is recommended. I feel that using baking powder is the correct ingredient. Enjoy reading your recipes and think you are a Doll! Best regards, Mike.

    1. Sorry for the confusion. It definitely should be powder Mike, thanks so much for pointing that out. I’ve updated the post, I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed the recipes!

    2. Nowhere in all the info on this recipe do I see anything about flour and baking powder. I have used this in other recipes but I would like to know how much for this recipe.

      1. Hi Ginny, this recipe doesn’t call for flour or baking powder. I do use flour and baking powder in my oven baked wings, but I find the air fryer wings crisp up just as well without it!

  3. Hi I really like this recipe I substitute the pepper for different seasonings today I used Franks wing seasoning after they are fryed I will toss them in Franks Buffalo sauce

  4. My Ninja air fryer has a rack that I can put the wings on and that eliminates the need to shake or turn. The air can surround the wings easily.

  5. On the second batch of wings, after the first six minutes, we started basting the wings with Frank’s Red Hot Wings/Buffalo sauce. This was a good idea. The more the better.

      1. Hi I have a question I recently had a heart attack and then found out 2 weeks later I’m diabetic I’m having trouble fi doing recipes for lunch that are low carb and heart healthy I might mention I’m a construction worker so it’s hard to find anything good for me for lunch help if u can please

      2. You can find healthier options here. I find soups to be a great choice as they reheat well and are full of healthy veggies and lean meats (you can skip the pasta/rice if needed). Lean proteins can also be made in advance (like shrimp or chicken breasts) and served cold on a salad or wrapped in low carb tortillas and filled with veggies.

We also love to make a healthy pasta sauce (great with ground turkey) and serve it over cooked spaghetti squash. Turkey chili is another healthy filling option if it fits into your carb allowance.

We also love to make chicken fajitas and serve wrapped in lettuce or over salads with salsa and greek yogurt as the dressing.

Veggie dips, boiled eggs and lean meats like ham or turkey make for great snacks.

    1. That should work Faatimah! Based on their size they make a little longer to cook, just ensure the chicken pieces reach an internal temperature of 165°F.

  6. Totally awesome recipe !! I am originally from Buffalo New York and I swear they are the best (next to the Original Anchor Bar where the original Buffalo Wings originated !!! Thank you Holly !!5 stars

  7. These were very simple to make and had a nice crispy coating on them when done. I added dry ranch dressing mix to the flour to give some extra flavor. Unfortunately, the only wings I had were the bulk frozen kind and after they cooked they shrunk so I’d like to try this recipe again on a fresh, meatier wing so I can get a nice good ole bite of its deliciousness.

  8. FYI. I recently found a non-stick reusable mat for my Farberware Air Fryer Toaster oven. It is trim to fit and easy to clean. I got it from Amazon. They have different sizes. I hope this is of interest to you!!5 stars

  9. These are by far the best air fryer wing recipe I have tried so far!!! Even my picky husband loved them.5 stars

  10. Looks great but I’ll have to wait until it warms up a bit. I can’t use my air fryer in the house as it sets off 3 of my smoke alarms. And that isn’t with a lot of greasy food, but just fries or veggies with a spray of oil. It is also annoyingly noisy with the air flow loud. I love the way it cooks the food, but hate the noise and smoke.5 stars
